Nobel laureate Ramakrishnan to get knighthood

NEW DELHI (REUTERS) - Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, India-born US citizen whose work in molecular biology won him a 2009 Nobel Prize in chemistry, will be knighted in UK, media reports said.

Ramakrishnan, or Venky as he is popularly known, is a biologist formed during a Medical Research Council's Molecular Biology Laboratories in Cambridge,

He has been celebrated "for services to molecular biology" in a New Year Honours List 2012, according to an central announcement.

Born in 1952 in a church city of Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, Ramakrishnan warranted his B.Sc. in Physics from MS University in Baroda, Gujarat and after migrated to a US to continue his studies. He warranted his Ph.D in Physics from Ohio University, his form on a Times of India website says.

In 2009, he and dual others common a Nobel for their work on a structure and duty of a ribosome.

In 2010, Ramakrishnan was awarded a Padma Vibhusan, nation's second top municipal honour.
